eVTOL Test Camera Interface

Sierra Bravo Aviation

A client from the San Francisco area was aware of my small business Carlson CAD and he contacted me about designing a unique piece for him. He owns his own company, Sierra Bravo Aviation, and they were hired to test a new camera for an eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff/Landing) aircraft company in the Bay Area.

His problem was the test camera was unable to connect to the camera mount already on his BELL 206B helicopter. This is where I came in to custom design and manufacture a solution for the camera system. The interface I created was perfectly measured to fit both the new camera and the existing mount. After designing it on Fusion 360, I used my Ender 3 MAX to bring it into the real world with a durable ABS plastic. All that was left was to ship it off to Sierra Bravo Aviation and allow them to begin testing.

I managed to stay in contact with my client there and after several flights the interface is holding up great and allowing them to complete their work for the eVTOL aircraft company.

  • Gained new connections in innovative industries.
  • Learned to meet new design requirements.
  • Performed physics simulations to certify the design's strength and durability for aerial testing.
  • Communicated virtually with client to best serve their needs.
  • Iterativly designed the interface in order to accomodate new requirements from the client.
